First minute: Newcastle 0-0 Nottingham Forest The whistle blows! The match has started at St James’ Park and, presumably, in the other three fixtures as well.
It’s almost time for the matches. Sky Sports are showing all four fixtures on a single screen, a first for their top division transmissions, but it’s a bit headache-inducing and I’m already feeling unwell, so we'll likely toggle between the games.
On this day in 1997 … Patrick Berger scores a hat-trick against the manager's Chelsea.
“Interesting to see that Forest’s training gear are beige, a indication perhaps of their uninspiring displays and scores since ‘Major’ Ange took the helm,” says Jeremy Boyce. “But honestly, what was he thinking of, taking the Marinakis money? Or did he accept it by accident?”
I was also puzzled, because he likely realized it would require patience to implement such a fundamental transformation of approach. Maybe he was eager to transform Spurs.
“Honestly, pal, I don’t think Forest have been terrible under the manager,” comments an observer. “The results are a little misleading: having seen a few of their matches, they’ve either been really unfortunate, finished poorly or had all their players (including their shot-stopper), along with bench players, all the coaching team, the bus driver, the club mascot and the tea lady all advanced for a (near) corner in the final moments of a match.
“I’m not Postecoglou's biggest fan for a number of reasons*, but I’m truly concerned of the team's offensive strength (including on their reserves). We might see a few surprises in this one.

I don't understand the manager being under so much scrutiny. He's only been in charge less 30 days. The only legitimate explanation for sacking him at this stage would be if he criticizing the legendary manager's famous sweater, and still a open statement would likely suffice.
“A beautiful day at this beautiful ground for two very decent teams competing,” comments a correspondent. “Speaking to some Palace supporters on the way up, they were expecting a difficult game, but agreed with me that JP Mateta is the key factor.
“Nevertheless, nice to feel anticipation rather than worry... for now.”
