Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered a variety of interesting independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a hero that is literally a dung striving to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Throughout 150 stages, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to buy outfits for your dung hero.
Time your actions carefully, since one mistake means starting over. Jump on floating orbs to launch your character higher, cross disappearing surfaces, and interact with buttons to reveal secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult game content in which things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the game boasts vibrant level designs and an amazing background music. The simple art of shifting abstract forms could recall players of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although difficult to recall other games where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently included toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as plant food. Naturally, fecal references appears extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on Steam on November 19.
